After a brutal October for AI stocks, AMD has given chip investors something to cheer. On Tuesday, November 3, the chipmaker reported record quarterly revenue of $13.4 billion, data center sales that nearly doubled, and a fourth-quarter forecast of about $17 billion, well above Wall Street’s expectations. AMD shares rose 6% to 8% in after-hours trading, standing out on a morning when Wall Street was also digesting the US midterm results. Here are the numbers that matter and why they moved the stock.
Quick answer: AMD’s Q3 2026 revenue was a record $13.4 billion, up 45% year over year, with adjusted earnings of $2.09 per share. Both beat analyst estimates (about $13.08 billion and $1.97). Data Center revenue jumped 97% to $8.5 billion on the ramp of its Instinct MI450-series AI GPUs. AMD guided Q4 revenue to about $17 billion, ±3%, against a consensus near $16.2 billion, and said it expects total revenue to grow more than 80% in 2027.

Why AMD’s earnings are trending
Three things made this report stand out.
1. Data center is now almost two-thirds of AMD
Data Center revenue of $8.5 billion made up about 64% of total sales, more than the Client and Gaming segments combined. AMD credited strong demand for its EPYC server processors and the launch of its Instinct MI450-series GPUs, its direct challenger to Nvidia’s AI accelerators.
2. The Q4 forecast was a big step up
Guiding to about $17 billion means AMD expects revenue to rise roughly 27% in just one quarter. On the earnings call, management said it expects Data Center revenue to grow about 50% sequentially in Q4. It also said Q4 should be the first quarter in which Data Center AI revenue is larger in dollar terms than server CPU revenue.
3. A bold 2027 outlook
AMD said it expects total revenue to grow more than 80% in 2027, with Data Center making up more than 80% of sales. CEO Lisa Su said on the call: “We now expect server revenue to double year-over-year in 2027.” She added that “demand is higher than supply.”
The timing helped too. The report landed after a month in which AI stocks lost trillions in value on fears of an AI spending bubble and power shortages for data centres (see how AI stocks lost $5 trillion in October). Strong AI demand from a major chipmaker eased some of those worries.
Helios, MI450 and who is buying AMD’s AI chips
The centrepiece of AMD’s AI push is Helios, a rack-scale system that combines Instinct MI450-series GPUs with 6th Gen EPYC CPUs, competing with Nvidia’s full-rack systems. According to AMD, Anthropic, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure are already running workloads on the first Helios systems.
Other highlights from the quarter:
- AMD began volume shipments of its MI455X GPU in Q3.
- HPE, Dell, Lenovo, Super Micro and other partners are due to start shipping Helios systems, which AMD expects to lift deployments sharply in Q4.
- OpenAI picked EPYC processors as host CPUs for its first custom accelerator platform.
- The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking chose Instinct MI430X GPUs and EPYC processors for Europe’s LUMI-AI supercomputer.
- AMD released ROCm 10, the latest version of its AI software stack, and announced agreements to acquire World Labs and Taalas.
- MI500 and MI600 chips are being co-designed with frontier AI labs, according to management.
The weak spots: gaming and PCs
Not everything grew. Gaming revenue fell 40% year over year to $773 million because of lower semi-custom (console chip) and graphics card sales, although it still beat estimates. Client (PC processor) revenue rose 7% to $2.9 billion but came in below the roughly $3.06 billion analysts expected. On the call, AMD said it is planning for PC unit shipments to fall by a double-digit percentage in 2027.
Cash flow also dipped. Operating cash flow fell to about $1.2 billion from about $2.2 billion a year earlier, as inventory and receivables tied up cash during the AI ramp. The non-GAAP gross margin guide of about 55% for Q4 was also slightly below some estimates.
How the stock reacted
AMD closed regular trading on November 3 at $483.90, up 3.65%, before the results came out. In extended trading, reports put the gain at about 6% (CNBC) to nearly 8% (Barron’s), with shares changing hands above $518. Yahoo Finance reported AMD up about 6% in premarket trading on Wednesday, even as other chip names such as Nvidia and Micron slipped after the US midterm elections.
For context, AMD’s 45% revenue growth was well ahead of rival Intel’s growth of about 21% in the same quarter.

What’s next for AMD
- Q4 delivery: Investors will watch whether AMD hits the $17 billion target and whether Data Center AI revenue overtakes server CPUs as promised.
- Helios shipments: How quickly OEM partners ship Helios racks will decide how much of the AI demand turns into revenue.
- Supply: With Su saying demand is higher than supply, manufacturing capacity is the main limit on growth.
- Power and policy: Data centre electricity limits remain a risk for every AI chipmaker, as we explained in AI data centres hit a power wall.
Frequently asked questions
Did AMD beat earnings expectations?
Yes. Revenue of $13.38 billion beat estimates of about $13.08 billion, and adjusted EPS of $2.09 beat the roughly $1.97 consensus. Data Center revenue also came in ahead of forecasts.
What is AMD’s Q4 2026 guidance?
About $17 billion in revenue, plus or minus $510 million (3%), with a non-GAAP gross margin of about 55%. At the midpoint, that would be roughly 66% growth year over year.
Why did AMD stock go up after earnings?
The strong Q4 forecast, 97% Data Center growth and a 2027 outlook of more than 80% revenue growth all pointed to strong AI demand, beyond what analysts had modelled.
What is AMD Helios?
Helios is AMD’s rack-scale AI system. It combines Instinct MI450-series GPUs with EPYC CPUs in a full data centre rack, and Anthropic, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI and Oracle are among its first users.
When does AMD report next?
AMD normally reports fourth-quarter results in late January or early February. The company had not announced the exact date at the time of writing.
