Do you know about Lucid Dreaming? What is Lucid Dreaming?

lucid dreaming

Lucid dreaming means knowing you’re dreaming while you’re dreaming. You’re able to recognize your thoughts and emotions as the dream happens.

A lucid dream is a dream during which the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming. During a lucid dream, the dreamer may gain some amount of control over the dream.

With that realization or state of consciousness in mind:

  • You can make decisions about what you want to do or where you want to go in that dream
  • You can alter the state of whatever or whoever you see in that dream, including yourself
  • From there, you can make changes and also be in control about how you are going to face the “reality” in that dream
  • You know when you are dreaming, which means you can do whatever you want. I was able to control places, situations, objects, people and their actions. Anything, actually. But not this was the best thing.
  • When you are dreaming, you have no fear “Oh, this is morally wrong. I shouldn’t do it, I’m a bad person”. You just do what you wanna do. You can make every single fantasy or daydream you’ve ever had come true. No guilt. No consequences.
  • For me, a big one was no more nightmares, as I had struggled with them for a long time.
  • A downfall tho: sometimes, extremely rarely, I would lose idea if I was asleep or not, as my dreams have always been very realistic. A little like Leo DiCaprio’s Inception. Again, it was occasionally, but it has happened.

When Lucid Dreaming occurs?

When you sleep, your brain cycles through rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and non-REM sleep.

Non-REM sleep includes three separate stages. During non-REM, your brain waves, heartbeat, and eye movements gradually slow down.

In REM sleep, your brain is extremely active. Your heart rate and eye movements also increase.

Lucid dreaming, like most dreams, usually happens during REM sleep.

In a lucid dream, you know that you’re dreaming. You’re aware of your awareness during the dream state.

About 55 percent of people have experienced one or more lucid dreams in their lifetime. However, frequent lucid dreaming is rare. Only 23 percent of people have lucid dreams at least once a month.
